There are several things to know before you buy insurance for your car. First, under NJ law, you are entitled to get $250,000 in medical benefits under your policy. However, in order to save money, many people are reducing this coverage to $15,000. You really do not save that much. When you get into an accident is when you realize the MISTAKE you made. Many times medical bills for accident injuries are over the $15,000 coverage you have. So you have to pay the bills out of pocket or submit them to your health insurance carrier. If you make a claim against the other driver, these payments come out of your settlement at the end of your case. It is really NOT worth the savings to reduce your medical benefits under your auto insurance coverage, keep them and be protected.
